Your job won't love you back. And honestly? That’s great news.

Coming August 2026
It all started when my friend Jade reminded me of something I said to her about 12 years ago when she was wrestling with some career decisions – “Remember, your job won’t love you back.” That conversation really got me thinking about the concept and what I wanted to tell my daughters as they launched into their careers. As I started reflecting, it ended up being a book… about ambition, purpose, relationships, balance, and building a life that feels fully your own. Not anyone else’s.
Through a whole lot of candid stories, big fails, humor, and some heartfelt reflections from my 30 years in some pretty demanding environments, my hope is it provides some thoughts on how to redefine success on your own terms. We often intersect ambition with identity and that can lead to a whole lot of unnecessary angst.
Anyone that knows me, knows I LOVE my job, I love to work, and aspire to be like Martha Stewart still working away and doing creative things at her young age of 84. This is not about quitting your job, setting false boundaries or abandoning ambition. Quite the opposite.
Instead, the book focuses on a “North Heart” framework, actionable exercises that can help build a life that feels whole, grounded, connected, and fully yours.

During the pandemic lockdown in 2020, she and her daughters started their efforts to help deserving families with basic necessities related to food scarcity and kitchen supplies. The idea was born from Allison Hill's belief that every family, despite individual circumstances, deserves time together to celebrate, connect, and enjoy each other’s company around a shared meal or family table. Their first initiative was the publication of Feeding Family, Feeding America, a cookbook with a cause, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to Feeding America. To date, the book has raised enough to serve 100,000 (and counting!) meals to those in need. This turned into the non-profit Eat Laugh Give in 2022. Her favorite activities center around her family - cooking, reading, laughing, (& doing nothing!) with her college sweetheart, two daughters, and two dogs.
Proceeds from the kids story book Lolly help fund non-profit initiatives for Eat Laugh Give.

Allison Hill has spent more than three decades building a career centered on connection, leadership, and purpose, from launching global campaigns at Sprint and The Coca-Cola Company to opening a boutique baby store after becoming a mother, to currently leading social impact and content initiatives at a major private equity firm.
A graduate of Cornell University’s Hotel School, where she also earned her MBA, Allison is also the founder of Eat Laugh Give, a nonprofit dedicated to strengthening connection for families in need.
All book proceeds are donated to the non-profit.
She lives in Atlanta and Ogunquit, Maine with her husband Geoff, their two daughters, and two dogs.
